Tip! Gene Therapy This is a revolutionary and experimental form of Mesothelioma treatment. It consists of a genetically and manufactured virus to counter the effects of the disease, ,repair the damage and stop the progression.
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that attacks the lining of the abdomen, lungs or the chest cavity, which is caused due to exposure to asbestos. This tumor has a long hibernation period and is often diagnosed 30-50 years after the exposure. Though currently no treatment is available for curing this disease, a timely diagnosis (depending upon the size of the tumor), may contribute in to improve the patients’ quality of life.
In some cases of early diagnosis, the treatments can result in extending the life of victim up to five years, in comparison to the normal lifespan of one year for a mesothelioma patient. While the current survival rate for mesothelioma patients is low, new treatments are in development with better affordability for a common man, and some show great promise. Radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and/or surgery are the most common options available today for the treatment of mesothelioma.
The cost incurred in overall treatment of this tumor is almost the same as the cost involved in the treatment of other tumors. The affected will have to go through many phases of the radiation therapy and the intensity of the treatment depends on the age of the person, the tumor’s size and its level of spread. It is difficult to determine exact cost for the treatment since there is variability in treatment plans, but usually cancer treatments can cost many thousands of dollars per month. This can be multifold if the tumor intensifies or the speed of spread is devastating.
Tip! Heated intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy, a procedure developed by Paul Sugarbaker at the Washington Cancer Institute is a breakthrough in Mesothelioma treatment. He is able to remove a larger amount of tumor by the direct administration of a chemotherapy agent in the abdomen.Overall, cancer treatment, including mesothelioma treatment, costs over $40 billion in the US each year. Typically, for one who has already been victimized by this dreadful disease, the treatment costs can prove to be very expensive. If one has been diagnosed and is suffering from mesothelioma, it is advisable to consult a mesothelioma lawyer, who can guide him as to his legal rights and how one can recover compensation from the party responsible for the exposure to asbestos. An expert lawyer can help recover compensation for bills, lost wages, and punitive damages, which can go up to millions of dollars.

Add to myYahoo!Tip! What is really unique about this new mesothelioma treatment study is the fact that this is the first trial to investigate the use of chemotherapy before surgery and radiation.
Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer that develops through exposure to asbestos. Treatment for mesothelioma depends on various factors such as where the cancer is located, the actual stage of the disease, the patient’s age, and the patient’s general health. The most common and standard treatment options used are surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. In a few cases all these treatment options are combined. There is no cure for mesothelioma, unless the affected part can be removed by an operation.
Surgery is a common treatment type for mesothelioma. In surgery, the entire lining of the chest or the abdomen is removed, along with a few of the surrounding tissues. Pneumonectomy is a kind of operation which involves the removal of the lung in the disease of pleural mesothelioma. In few cases, a part of the diaphragm - the muscle below the lungs which helps in breathing - is also removed.
Tip! Over the past few years treatments have improved for treating mesothelioma, but further clinical trials are needed to continue mesothelioma treatment methods.Radiation therapy or radiotherapy uses high-energy rays to kill these malignant cancerous cells; it shrinks the tumors that are developed. The radiotherapy is used to affect the cancerous cells only in the treated area. Mesothelioma treatment is done in two different radiations such as external radiation and internal radiation. External radiation uses a machine to radiate into the cancer cells. The process where thin plastic tubes are generally used to radiate into the area where the cancer cells are found is referred as internal radiotherapy.
Chemotherapy is a kind of treatment which involves the use of anticancer drugs to kill the cancerous cells in the entire body. These drugs, which are used as the treatment for mesothelioma, are injected into the vein. Use of a needle or a thin tube used to drain the fluid which has developed in the region of chest or abdomen is used by the doctors for relieving the symptoms and control pain.
Tip! Mesothelioma can take between ten and sixty years to develop after inhalation of respirable asbestos fibers, but Mesothelioma progresses fast. Radical surgeries as mesothelioma treatments have had limited success.Thoracentesis is the procedure used to remove the fluid from the chest. Paracentesis is the procedure which is used to remove the fluid from the abdominal region. Giving drugs through the tubes can prevent the accumulation of fluid in the chest. Surgery and radiotherapy are used to relieve the symptoms in the treatment process.

Add to myYahoo!Tip! Research all you can concerning mesothelioma. The more you understand the disease affecting you or a loved one, the better you will be able to judge a lawyer’s expertise.
Majority of mesothelioma (cancerous tumor affecting mesothelial cells of organs) cases come under the classification pleural mesothelioma’. This is a cancer that originates in the pleura, the delicate membrane covering the lungs. Out of these, seventy five percent are diffuse malignant pleural mesethelioma. The balance is localized or benign.
Diffuse malignant pleural mesothelioma is, in most cases, caused by unprotected exposure to asbestos. The symptoms include shortness of breath and/or chest pain, loss of weight, cough, fatigue, swelling on the face, neck and arms, reduced appetite, and coughing up blood. There would be collection of fluid in the thoracic cavity. It may take from twenty to forty years or more after contact with asbestos for the symptoms to emerge. Because of the time lag, diagnosing is often difficult. Moreover, many doctors are not familiar with the disease.
Diagnostic procedure consists mostly of imaging with Computed Tomography (CT scan), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Position Emission Tomography (PET), and laboratory tests and analysis. Thoractomy, which means making an incision through the chest wall to look into the pleura (the membrane lining the lungs and the thoracic cavity) and pleural biopsy provide conclusive evidence.
Diffuse malignant pleural mesothelioma tumor is very aggressive and spreads fast. There are several methods to gauge the stage of the cancer. The most common is known as TNM. T is for the size of the tumor, N for the number of lymph nodules involved, and M for metastasis (spread of the cancer). There are basically four different stages. Correct grading helps the doctors to decide on the course of treatment. If the affliction is detected at an early stage, the chances of longer survival are better.
Tip! People commonly believe that working in mines and playing in piles where you are surrounded by asbestos and staying close to a person suffering from mesothelioma are the only factors responsible for its outbreak. But in reality, mesothelioma and any other ARD is not a communicable one and individuals who have never taken up any such tasks are even inflicted with it.But generally the prognosis (response to treatment) is not good in diffuse malignant pleural mesothelioma cases. Surgery during Stage I may help. If detected during the later phases of the cancer the survival rate is four months to twelve months. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy do not seem to improve the survival rate. The reality is that currently there is no effective curative treatment. Research is on to find new management methods and more effectual medicines.
Pleural Mesothelioma provides detailed information on Malignant Diffuse Pleural Mesothelioma, Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma, Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma Survival Rate, Mesothelioma Pleural Brachytherapy and more. Pleural Mesothelioma is affiliated with Peritoneal Mesothelioma Lawyers.
Symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until between twenty and fifty years after exposure, which explains why so many new cases of this form of cancer are coming to light now, even though the dangers of asbestos were realized long ago and measures taken to reduce the risk of the disease.

Did you know about 35 million Americans are suffering from one kind of lung disease or the other? Did you know that lung infections are believed to be one of the most important causes for infant mortality in America? Probably you also did not know that diseases related to lung claim one in seven lives every year. Well, it is an alarming statistics, isn’t it? But what does a lung disease mean? Precisely, Lung disease refers to any kind of disorder in which the functions of respiratory system get affected and impaired and this impairment manifest in several ways, such as, troubled breathing, nagging cough, short of breath, pain or uneasiness in the chest, inability of taking up physical labor and likes.
Tip! Fraquelli M; Colli A; Colucci A; Bardella MT; Trovato C; Pometta R; Pagliarulo M; Conte D. Accuracy of ultrasonography in predicting celiac disease. The medical science divides all kinds of lung diseases into two broad categories: Obstructive lung diseases and Restrictive lung diseases.
In obstructive lung diseases, the airways get narrowed or blocked and the result is a decrease in exhaled air flow. The disorders like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), emphysema, asthma, and bronchiectasis are cause by such obstructions of lungs.
Restrictive Lung Diseases result into either loss of lung tissue or decrease in the lung’s ability to expand. It may also decrease lung’s ability to transfer oxygen or carbon dioxide into the bloodstream. The killer disease of lung cancer is a kind of restrictive lung disease. Pulmonary fibrosis and pneumonia are also caused by the same lung disorder.

Well this is not adequate; you have to stay clear of the smokers, for it is the passive smokers who are at higher risk than the smokers themselves to develop some kind of lung disease, even cancer. Make it a point to request a smoker to enjoy his cigarette in a secluded place so that the others are not forced to inhale second hand smoke.
Then if you work in mines or somehow exposed to radon gas, you run the risk of developing a bad lungs. In the USA, radon is sometimes found in the households also and so it is important for everybody to invest in a kit for measuring the concentration of radon at your home and take the steps accordingly.

The liver processes nutrients from the digestive system. It also removes toxins from the body, and produces a greenish-brown fluid known as bile that is required for digestion. There are a wide number of diseases that affect the liver. They range from chronic illnesses such as hepatitis and cirrhosis to acute conditions such as cancer or bile duct obstruction. Millions of Americans have both chronic and acute liver disease. Liver cancer, portal hypertension and bile duct obstruction are three of the most common liver diseases.
Banish Bad Breath And Gum Disease! Banish your bad breath and gum disease. The liver is the largest organ in the body and proper function is essential for life. You cannot live without your liver, as it converts food into stored energy and produces chemicals that are vital to life.
The liver processes carbohydrates, proteins, fats and minerals that are used to maintain normal body functions. Carbohydrates are stored to maintain energy throughout the day. Proteins are released to the muscles as energy or are stored for later use. Some are converted and excreted through urine. Some proteins are transformed into ammonia that is broken down by the liver and excreted through the kidneys. Bile is produced in the liver and that helps break down fat that is stored in the gallbladder and released into the small intestine. Bile absorbs essential vitamins and after digestion and are returned to the liver and recycled.

Add to myYahoo!Tip! Unhealthy aging and diseases of the body systems (such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, immune dysfunction, etc.) are MULTI-CAUSAL.
It is well known that about two-thirds of the U.S. population is either overweight or obese. The U.S. Surgeon General has stated that approximately 75% of Western diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, gout, arthritis, excess weight gain, hypertension, diabetes, some cancers, impotence, biventricular disease, constipation, heartburn, and gallbladder disease, are “lifestyle-related.” They are directly correlated with our high fat diet, inadequate amounts of exercise, smoking, high intake of caffeine, and high amounts of stress coupled with insufficient support.
Hoping to address this alarming situation, more than 20 years ago, cardiovascular epidemiologist Hans A. Diehl, DrHSc, MPH, created the Coronary Health Improvement Project (CHIP). Since then, this 40-hour community-based lifestyle intervention program has helped more than 40,000 people rediscover their health by preventing, arresting and reversing their diseases. It has been conducted in more than 150 North American cities as well as in Bangalore, India, Australia and Switzerland. Depending upon the needs of the group, the meetings are held either “live” with Dr. Diehl delivering the program personally (usually meeting four times per week for four weeks) or as a “video-based” program with certified CHIP facilitators (normally two times per week for eight weeks). In addition, Dr. Diehl is a best-selling author - To Your Health, Dynamic Living, and Health Power (co-authored with Aileen Ludington, M.D.) — as well as the executive editor of a 24-page quarterly Lifeline Health Letter; he has produced scores of health videos. CHIP empowers people through its scientifically-documented, educational and inspirational program that addresses common western diseases — those that used to be seen primarily later in life.
Tip! The actual finding that excess weight is going epidemic leads to the conclusion that obesity must be recognized and treated as a disease with fatal complications. Most of the prevention efforts must target the young population because obese condition in children is close associated to certain high risks of developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes in later life.Today, these diseases increasingly appear at far younger ages. CHIP may make all the difference in one’s life — even the difference between life and death.
In 1999, CHIP launched a “community health transformation template” in Rockford, Illinois, a city with a population of 130,000. The intention was to transform Rockford into the healthiest city in American, thereby enabling it to serve as a model and template for cultural transformation on a community-wide level. Recently, CHIP was recognized as just such a model by HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson and was “approved” under the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a “STEPS to a HealthierUS” applicant. In addition to “live” CHIP, a series of CHIP videos are offered through schools, churches, corporations, and hospitals. In Rockford, CHIP is sponsored by the Swedish American Health System’s Center for Complementary Medicine.
Who is the typical CHIP participant? Generally, CHIP participants are over the age of 40. Most are between the ages of 50 and 59. There are twice as many women as men, and almost 90% are married. Clinical research, published in peer review journals, has found that they have the following lifestyle diseases:
Over the course of the program, strict adherents are likely to experience significant clinical improvements such as the following:

Connie Thebarge’s Story
At the age of 59, Connie Thebarge, a patient at the Ottawa Heart Institute in British Columbia, Canada, was told that her doctors could no longer help her. After all, in addition to suffering from hypertension, she had diabetes and painful diabetic neuropathy. She had two heart attacks followed by a triple coronary bypass surgery and an unsuccessful angioplasty. Every day, she had to take 27 pills. Not surprisingly, she was also depressed.
Tip! The researchers discovered that the 94 men with heart disease tended to have a higher serum level of the saturated fatty acid palmitic acid and stated that a high level of this acid increases the risk of CHD by 68 percent. Palmitic acid is the main saturated fatty acid in most diets.Yet, today, more than a decade later, Thebarge walks three miles a day, swims twice a week, dances, and travels to Florida and Europe. No longer depressed, she also requires far fewer pills. How was this accomplished? Thebarge participated in CHIP and transformed her life.

Fatty liver is a condition in which fat accumulates in the liver cells. However simple fatty liver does not damage the liver. Fat accumulation in the liver can be caused by weight gain or diabetes mellitus. Fatty liver can occur with a lean diet and ailments such as tuberculosis and intestinal bypass surgery for obesity. It can also occur while certain drugs like corticosteroids. The condition is also caused by heavy alcohol use. A patient is diagnosed as having a fatty liver when fat makes up at least 10% of the liver.
Fatty food does not cause a fatty liver. It is a common condition that is seen in people who are overweight or suffer from diabetes. Explanations for a fatty liver include the transfer of fat from other parts of the body, or a spurt in the extraction of fat presented to the liver from the intestine. Another argument is that the fat accumulates because the liver is unable to change it into a form that can be removed.
Tip! Get enough rest A woman with cardiac disease needs more rest than the average pregnant woman. Rest lessens the strain of the increased burden of the pregnant woman’s heart.Fatty liver is diagnosed by eliminating the chances of chronic liver disease, particularly from alcohol abuse. Images of the liver obtained through an ultrasound test, a CT scan or a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan can diagnose a fatty liver. In an ultrasound test, a fatty liver produces a bright image in a ripple pattern. A CT scan will show a picture in which the liver will appear less dense than normal.
The treatment of fatty liver is linked with the cause. A simple fatty liver does not need treatment, because it does not damage the liver cells. Overweight patients with fatty liver will have to reduce their weight. Control of diabetes also decreases the fat content in the liver.
Tip! Fraquelli M; Colli A; Colucci A; Bardella MT; Trovato C; Pometta R; Pagliarulo M; Conte D. Accuracy of ultrasonography in predicting celiac disease.Another condition that causes fat deposit in the liver is the nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). But, unlike a simple fatty liver, it causes damage to the liver cells. It is not linked to other causes of chronic liver disease, like hepatitis B and C viruses, autoimmune disorders, alcohol, drug toxicity, and the accumulation of copper (Wilson’s Disease) or iron (hemochromatosis).

Crohn’s Disease (also known as ulcerative colitis, granulomatous enteritis, regional enteritis, ileitis, or terminal ileitis) is an ongoing disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive tract (also known as the gastrointestinal tract). Crohn’s Disease can affect any area of the digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus, however it most commonly affects the lower part of the small intestine, called the ileum. The swelling extends deep into the lining of the affected organ. The swelling can cause pain and can make the intestines empty frequently, resulting in diarrhea.
Crohn’s Disease is an inflammatory bowel disease - the common name for diseases that cause swelling in the intestines. Because the symptoms of Crohn’s Disease are similar to other intestinal disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis, it can be difficult to diagnose. Ulcerative colitis causes inflammation and ulcers in the top layer of the lining of the large intestine. In Crohn’s Disease, all layers of the intestine may be involved, and normal healthy bowel can be found between sections of diseased bowel.
Tip! Rinse your mouth with a good antibacterial mouthwash for at least a full thirty seconds twice each day. This will help reach bacteria trapped in pockets below your gum line, aiding in reversing periodontal gum disease. The cause of Crohn’s Disease is unknown. It is suspected that infection by certain bacteria, such as strains of mycobacterium, may be the cause of Crohn’s Disease. However, there has been no conclusive evidence that the disease is caused by infection. Crohn’s Disease is not contagious. Although diet may affect the symptoms in patients with Crohn’s disease, it is not likely that diet is actually responsible for the onset of the disease.
The most common Crohn’s Disease symptoms are abdominal pain, often in the lower right area, and diarrhea. Less common symptoms include poor appetite, fever, night sweats, rectal pain, and rectal bleeding, weight loss, arthritis, and skin problems, may also occur. Bleeding may be serious and persistent, leading to anemia. Children with Crohn’s Disease may suffer delayed development and stunted growth. The range and severity of symptoms varies.
Tip! Rinse with mouthwashes or oral rinses daily. These products help kill bacteria lodged beneath the gums and aid in reversing gum disease.A thorough physical exam and a series of tests may be required to diagnose Crohn’s Disease. Blood tests to check for anemia - which could indicate bleeding in the intestines. Blood tests may also uncover a high white blood cell count, which is a sign of inflammation somewhere in the body. By testing a stool sample, the doctor can tell if there is bleeding or infection in the intestines.
How To Prevent-Even Cure Heart Disease. How to prevent-even cure Heart Disease-without drugs or surgery. The most common complication is blockage of the intestine. Blockage occurs because the disease tends to thicken the intestinal wall with swelling and scar tissue, narrowing the passage. Crohn’s Disease may also cause sores, or ulcers, that tunnel through the affected area into surrounding tissues, such as the bladder, vagina, or skin. The areas around the anus and rectum are often involved. The tunnels, called fistulas, are a common complication and often become infected. Sometimes fistulas can be treated with medicine, but in some cases they may require surgery. In addition to fistulas, small tears called fissures may develop in the lining of the mucus membrane of the anus.
Tip! Visit your doctor and have an annual medical check-up to prevent diseases.Crohn’s Disease affects both men and women and can run in some families. About 20 percent of people with Crohn’s Disease have a blood relative with some form of inflammatory bowel disease, most often a brother or sister and sometimes a parent or child. Crohn’s Disease can occur in people of all age groups, but it is more often diagnosed in people between the ages of 20 and 30. People of Jewish heritage have an increased risk of developing Crohn’s disease, and African Americans are at decreased risk for developing Crohn’s Disease.
Banish Bad Breath And Gum Disease! Banish your bad breath and gum disease.Treatment for Crohn’s Disease may include drugs, nutrition supplements, surgery, or a combination of these options. Treatment controls inflammation, corrects nutritional deficiencies, and relieves symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. Treatment can help control the disease by lowering the number of times a person experiences a recurrence - however - there is no cure. Treatment for Crohn’s Disease depends on the location and severity of disease, complications, and the person’s response to previous medical treatments when treated for reoccurring symptoms.
Some people have long periods of remission, sometimes years, when they are free of symptoms. However, the disease usually recurs at various times over a person’s lifetime.
Tip! Fraquelli M; Colli A; Colucci A; Bardella MT; Trovato C; Pometta R; Pagliarulo M; Conte D. Accuracy of ultrasonography in predicting celiac disease. This changing pattern of the disease means you cannot always tell when a treatment has helped. It is not possible to predict when a remission may occur or when symptoms will return. A person with Crohn’s Disease may need medical care for a long time, with regular doctor visits to monitor the condition.

The heart is a marvelous human organ. Blood supply to the heart is furnished from the two main arteries branching off of the aorta. The coronary arteries deliver oxygen rich blood to the heart. Without this blood the heart suffers and is not able to regenerate itself properly. In advanced age these arteries become narrowed , hardened and clogged. They become narrowed because of plaque, cholesterol, calcium. and age. When this occurs blood flow to the heart is stopped or curtailed.
Hope For Healing Canine Liver Disease. Alternative Treatment for Healing Canine Liver Disease. The symptoms that result from this disease are chest pains and heart attacks. Preventive measures that can be taken are changes in diet, exercise and medicines that can be taken to reduce plaque. Chelation therapy is another treatment to reduce plaque in the arteries and veins. One type requires office visits to a doctor. The other form of chelation therapy can be initiated at home. These are pills or liquids that can be taken on a scheduled maintenance program. Aspirin is another medication that can reduce the odds of having a heart attack.
Tip! Rinse with mouthwashes or oral rinses daily. These products help kill bacteria lodged beneath the gums and aid in reversing gum disease.Another indicator of possible heart disease is hypertension. In this condition the heart pumps against a greater force with the resulting problem being an enlarged heart. Care should be taken to get high blood pressure down to a manageable level. Optimum conditions exist when calcium, plaque and cholesterol are reduced in the veins and arteries for greater blood flow and reduced tensions in these blood transporters.
Conditions that affect the heart are obesity, lack of exercise, poor diet, smoking, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Stress is another condition that needs to be avoided as much as possible in order to maintain correct heart health. Coronary heart disease is the leading killer of men and women in the United States. Heredity has been diagnosed as a primary factor leading to heart disease. Medical procedures that can be used are coronary bypass surgery.
