Add to myYahoo! On last nights BBC Two TV program: Can Gerry Robinson Fix Dementia Care Homes?
- amongst the angst his visits and engagement with several care homes provoked Sir Gerry highlighted the need for a moral compass and compassion. The themes I expected to find were there: the need for person-centered care, knowledge of the clients and their backgrounds, being occupied and having access to a secure environment when the weather permits, staff morale and the level of staff training and competence. Although not necessarily 'enjoyable' viewing the program was very good in raising awareness and included either directly or indirectly:
Hodges' model can provide a compass.

Add to myYahoo! There is some trouble feeding the world's population, at least there is a potential for a "food bottleneck" if we factor in growing population numbers. Organic agriculture and small scale local farming could help get past that bottleneck, but sooner or later we have to face the rather wasteful production of animal protein. There is a solution to that - we can grow very highly nutritious food by cultivating plankton, tiny creatures that live and multiply in sea water. They are very low on the food chain and supply great protein. Developing this food source could unburden the agricultural practice of animal husbandry, while still providing good nutrition for growing numbers of people. Marine aquaculture could...

Unfortunately, as many of us know, relieving the pain from trigeminal neuralgia is a little more involved than taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. For many people, part of the frustration of TN is that there seems to be little to do to bring any relief at all. However, there are things that people have tried with varying success to alleviate some of their pain.
The idea behind many of these tips is to ?scramble the signals? of the affected nerves so that they do something besides cause pain. Whether medically or scientifically sound or not, many people out there are finding some level of relief from these tips and none of them are harmful. While most people say that none of these techniques completely eliminate their discomfort, they do claim to experience a reduction in the pain. To me, this sounds better than nothing and worth a try.
